SoCalEights E31 30th Anniversary Picnicat Yorba Regional Park (Shelter #2) on 9/21/2019 at 11:00 AM
Join us for a great picnic and celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the BMW 8 Series (E31). SoCalEights has kept the "passion for excellence" alive for the past 12 years through social events and attendance at significant car shows each year. This year, 30 years after the inaugural event, we come together to show our appreciation the the cars and the SoCalEights group for it continuing activity and keeping the E31 coimmunity active in Southern California. The Yorba Regional Park, Shelter #2 is a fabulous location to hold this event with a children's play area 50 yards away (and the bathrooms are close by!) Come join us for some great food from the famous Fiesta Taco Co., a car show and drawings! 'Some fun prizes on hand that you'll be wanting to add to your E31 repertoire.
The 8 Series debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in early September 1989. Over 1.5 billion Deutsche Mark was spent on total development (2019 USD nearly $900 million). BMW used CADtools, still unusual at the time, to design the car's all-new body. Combined with wind tunnel testing, the resulting car had a drag coefficient of Cd=0.29, a major improvement from the previous BMW M6/635CSi's 0.39.
